English The English 10/20/30 sequence is designed for students who require academic English courses for entrance to post-secondary institutions. English 30 is required for university entrance. English 10 - 5 Credits English Language Arts 10 is the introductory course at the senior high school level in the academic ELA 10-1/20-1/30-1 course sequence, which can lead to university entrance. It is a five-credit course. Students will study a Shakespearean play, a one-act modern play, and a novel, as well as short stories, poems, and various non-fiction texts including essays and articles. Students will also interact with various non-print and multimedia texts. English 20 - 5 Credits English Language Arts 20, follows English Language Arts 10, and is required for English Language Arts 30. It is a five-credit. Students will study a variety of literary, visual and aural texts and will focus on developing their communication skills verbally, visually, and orally English 30 - 5 Credits English Language Arts 30 is a culmination of the ELA 10 and 20 stream and a will help prepare students for English language arts at the post-secondary level. The English 13/23/33 sequence is an alternative for students who wish only to attain a high school diploma and do not plan to continue with post-secondary education. English 13 - 5 Credits This course is intended to help students develop reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing skills. Students will experience and respond to a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and media. English 23 - 5 Credits Prerequisite: English 13 (taken within the last 2 years). This course builds on the reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing skills learnt in English 13. It helps students develop competence in written and oral communication. English 33 - 5 Credits Prerequisite: English 23 (taken within the last 2 years).
