Conversation - EAL

Times: 9 AM – 12 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

Our Conversation EAL Classes develop listening, speaking (including pronunciation) and vocabulary skills. These skills are important for success in employment, education and everyday life.

Reading and Writing - EAL

  • Start date: Mondays

Times: 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

Afternoon Reading and Writing EAL Classes add to our morning Conversation Classes by focusing on the production and comprehension of written English.

Reading and Writing Classes also involve more focused attention to English Grammar rules.

English 1 on 1

This course will provide you with guidance to help improve all your skill areas or just one if that is your preference. Individualized training will begin from your current ability level and focus directly on those areas in which you desire improvement.

IELTS

  • Start date: Beginning of each month

Times: Varies

Our course will prepare you to take the academic and general training formats of the IELTS test. It will cover each component of the ILETS test: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

CELPIP

  • Start date: Beginning of each month

Times: Varies

The CELPIP preparation course is designed to prepare individuals to achieve a best possible score in the four language skills on the CELPIP General Test. By the end of the course, clients will demonstrate accumulated language awareness and personal strategies to confidently express their skills during the computerized CELPIP-General test.

TOEFL

TOEFL Preparation Classes provide students with the skills needed to succeed on the TOEFL exam. Success on these exams can open doors to higher education, a better job Our TOEFL Preparation Classes include a review of grammar, as well as special attention to the specific listening, reading and writing tasks of TOEFL that students will face.

Accent Reduction

The overall aims in this course promote conscious listening and inspire clear speech within an approach that recognizes language acquisition as both a cognitive skill and a motor skill. Lessons validate the coordination of the English language sound system with muscle movements that involve breath, voice and articulation. Lesson objectives address individual needs and ensure each client understands personal speech weaknesses, how to apply improvement techniques and, through repetition and self-practice, how to commit learning to both intellectual memory and motor skill recall.

Basic Literacy Support

This is a one-on-one program.

The Basic Literacy Programis designed for English as an Additional Language speakers lacking basic literacy skills who are seeking work in Canada. It's a program that is recommended for students with pre CLB levels and/or CLB 1 to 2 in all categories. The program addresses all four aspects of the English language. It targets students with a significant discrepancy between listening and speaking benchmarks (2 and above) and reading and writing (pre-Benchmark).

English Language Assessment

Equilibrium School provides English language assessments based on the Canadian Language Benchmark scale/guidelines.

The Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) are the national standards used in Canada for describing, measuring and recognizing the English language proficiency of adult immigrants and prospective immigrants for living and working in Canada.

The scale of benchmarks is from pre-benchmark, the lowest to 12, the highest.
